From the Pen of Father Ryan

Sunday services for the next 2 weeks (20 and 27th of December) will be held at our regular time. The Christmas Eve Carols service will begin at 11pm followed by mid-night Holy Communion.

Almost a month ago, we embarked on the journey of Advent. We lit the first candle, and we read biblical passages that propelled us into the future to consider the end of time-the apocalypse. Then, our reading sent us in the opposite direction. On the second Sunday of Advent, we were pulled into the distant past to hear the words of the ancient prophet, Malachi who tells of a figure who is coming "to prepare the way for the Lord." He speaks of a messenger who will purify people's hearts. "God is sending an emissary," writes Malachi, "who comes intending to cleanse your souls."

It all seems a bit presumptuous, doesn't it? In the midst of our pre-Christmas hustle and bustle, the church trots out some primitive prophet who promises us an Advent scrub-down. Is that really what we need right now? You would think that the lectionary could come up with a few encouraging words at this time-assuring us that we will make it through another Christmas, instead of cheekily suggesting that before God arrives, we need a bath!

Pastoral Newsletter

Father Ryan has published a Pastoral Newsletter under the title Northern Son, which is available by clicking the underlined link.

"Christianity will not improve until the church returns to the simple holiness, genuine love, and cross-bearing of the early Christians." The Church, when married to the ways of the world falters. We cannot improve Christianity through human means. Let's each of us through prayer, faith and action share His love in the world. Invite someone to a new life in Christ."

About Us

We are a small friendly parish and celebrate traditional catholic worship using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Our Anglican Catholic beliefs are based on the teachings of the Bible and the ancient creeds of the Church. The center of our liturgical worship is the Holy Eucharist. By the readings, prayers and very sacrament itself, we learn about God, ourselves and our relationships to one another. Join us to gain that peace which the world cannot give: the peace of God, which passes all understanding.

A Prayer for the Anglican Church of St. George
O Almighty God, who didst give to thy servant George boldness to confess the Name of our Savior Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to die for this faith: Grant that we may always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of the same our Lord Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, forever and ever. Amen

About the Saint named George

from a Wikipedia article

"In Christian hagiography Saint George - The Saint who killed the Dragon (ca. 275-281–April 23, 303) was a soldier of the Roman Empire, from the then Greek-speaking Anatolia, now modern day Turkey, who was venerated as a Christian martyr. Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches. Immortalized in the tale of George and the Dragon, he is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and is the patron saint of Aragón, Canada, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, Russia, and Palestine, as well as the cities of Beirut, Ljubljana, Freiburg and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organizations and disease sufferers."
